Search & Rescue Team
The proceeds from the annual Big Freeze winter event go toward supporting the Delta County Search & Rescue Team.
Formed in 1985 in cooperation with the Army National Guard, Delta County Search and Rescue is an all volunteer, 20 member team that responds to technical rescues covered under NFPA 1670 and 1006 respectively. All 1,170 square miles of Delta County is covered, along with its 221 miles of Lake Michigan Shoreline. Members go through rigorous and thorough training to become proficient in technical rescue.
Delta County Search & Rescue responds to calls for: missing persons, ice rescue, swift-water rescues, high angle rope rescues, wilderness medical evacuations, assistance to EMS agencies, and assistance to Marine Patrol for marine emergencies.
